  • Can You Really Let Go of Your Past?

Book Cover off of Amazon Website

In Before and Again by Barbara Delinsky, Mackenzie Cooper’s eyes were off the road for a few seconds, and it changed her life forever, as well as many others. The accident ended more than two lives that day. After losing her marriage, family, and friends, she decides to get away.

She finds herself in Vermont, with the name Maggie Reid. She has a small home and has adopted a dog and a few cats to keep her company. She has a good job at the Inn as a makeup artist and has quite a few friends in the community.

That being said, she is still under probation, so she has to be careful as she gets closer and closer to the date when she doesn’t have to deal with her probation officer anymore.

However, crime happens no matter where you live, and Maggie’s sleepy little town is thrust into the national spotlight when a local teenager hacks into the school database as well as several powerful men’s Twitter accounts. She finds her face on national television as she stands beside a friend with her own secrets!

As Grace’s secrets come out, Maggie’s may also. The life that she worked so hard to protect may come crumbling down as Maggie struggles to deal with the loss of her daughter, five years later.

I could not put this book down, especially as things started to come out about Maggie’s past. When her ex-husband and brother show up, you can imagine that Maggie isn’t going to be pleased.

A Delinsky classic! Always good storytelling that is worth reading!

In Against All Odds by Danielle Steel, Kate Madison is determined to keep her family together. After losing her husband to cancer, she has four children to raise. So, she does what she has to. She relies on her mother, goes back to work, and eventually starts her own business, a resale shop.

But as her children grow up, go to college, and move on with their lives, she is not quite ready to let them go.

Isabelle is a hardworking lawyer determined to make partner. When she falls for her pro bono client in a criminal case, she can’t wait to begin a life with him.

Julie is a clothing designer, though she doesn’t get any credit for her work. That being said, she is paid well for her designs and is happy doing what she loves. She eventually learns that she will support them since she can’t protect them from making mistakes. Instead, she will be by their side every step of the way.

This was a good book about a family who have each other’s backs, no matter what. No questions asked. You can’t go wrong with a Danielle Steel novel!

  • Life Is Looking Up for Heather

Book Cover off of Amazon Website

Life is going well for Heather in Big Boned by Meg Cabot. She has settled into a routine as an Assistant Dormitory Director and sometimes sleuth. She is still working for her landlord, Cooper, in exchange for free rent. Her father is moving into his own place. She is also in a mature relationship with Tad Tocco, her math professor.

Even better, nobody has died lately in “Death Dorm,” though that is about to change when her unlovable boss ends up dead. This time, Heather is on the suspect list, along with many others, including the leader of a group who is about to strike and a minister who’s been accused of taking liberties with some girls at the college.

When people want her to go back into show business, Heather isn’t sure what she should do, though she really has to get to the bottom of the mystery, even if she could end up hurt in the process!

Another great read by Cabot. I can’t wait to see how the series will play out!

  • The Book Behind the Netflix Series

Book Cover off of Amazon Website

I loved the Netflix series, so I just had to read the actual book. Actually, I read Firefly Lane once before, but when I found out there was a sequel, I had to read it all over again!

In Hannah’s book, we meet Kate Mularkey, an eighth grader who is socially at the bottom of the totem pole. When the “coolest girl in the world” moves in across the street and wants to be her friend, she can’t believe that Tully Hart actually wants to be her friend.

The two, who are complete opposites, bond in a way that only young girls can do. They make a pact to be friends forever, and from then on, they are TullyandKate and become inseparable.

As they grow up and their lives diverge, the two continue to be best friends. Tully is always desperate to prove herself and is determined to be the best reporter in the world. Her ambition drives her life, and she finds herself with fame and success.

Kate follows Tully into the news, but when she falls in love, she realizes she would rather stay home with her children. She wants to live an ordinary life, and takes pride in raising her children and doing everything she can to ensure they have a wonderful childhood.

For thirty years, Tully and Kate stay friends, no matter what they are doing. They have periods of jealousy, anger, hurt, and resentment, but they always find their way back to each other. Until a single act of betrayal tears them apart and threatens their friendship in a way that it never has.

If you are looking for a book about friendship (both the good and the bad), you definitely need to check out Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah.

  • Heather’s Story Just Keeps Getting Better and Better!

Book Cover off of Amazon Website

In Size 14 is Not Fat Either by Meg Cabot, Heather is back at it, except she has gained a few more pounds! She is still working as an assistant dorm director at New York College when another death makes people refer to her dorm as Death Dorm.

Though she tries to stay out of it, when a popular cheerleader’s head is found in the kitchen of the dormitory, it is hard when nobody can really figure out where the rest of the body is (or who did it). So, Heather starts snooping, as only she can do.

It also helps her deal with her life. Her ex-con father shows up on her doorstep. Her ex-fiance won’t stop calling her, even though he is about to marry someone else. Plus, she can’t really deal with the feelings that she has for her roommate.

However, Heather has to be careful, or she might be next in the line of murders in the building!

Another great read by Cabot. I can’t wait to finish the series and see what Heather gets up to next!

  • Nicholas Sparks is Always A Pleasure

Book Cover off of Amazon Website

When looking for my next read, I decided to go back to a favorite of mine since I started reading adult novels. Nicholas Sparks’ latest book, Counting Miracles, was as good as the rest.

Tanner Hughes, raised by his grandparents in the military, followed his grandfather’s footsteps. After finishing with the Rangers, he spent years abroad, never settling down. When his grandmother dies, she spills a little secret, one about his father.

Never knowing his mother or father, he is determined to find his father. So, he sets out for Asheboro, North Carolina, to find him. In less than a day, he meets a doctor, Kaitlyn Cooper, who changes everything. Their connection is immediate, and they have to decide whether or not to start a relationship, with him leaving in a few weeks.

We also meet eighty-three-year-old Jasper, who lives alone in a cabin bordering a national forest. He spends his days with his old dog, Arlo, haunted by the tragedy that took his family. When he hears about a white deer, he is determined to save it from hunters.

When these characters find themselves linked together in a way that nobody saw coming, you will be amazed. It changes everything!

If you aren’t sure what to read next, Sparks is always a good choice. He delivers, and readers will be amazed at any book they pick up!
